Domestic Violence AdvocateAt — House of Ruth

Opportunity Summary 

At House of Ruth volunteers and interns are a vital part of the organization. House of Ruth’s volunteers and interns can answer our 24-hour hotline, become a Peer Mentor, assist with the children’s program, prepare meals at our shelter, participate in fundraising events, provide clerical support, organize holiday donations, present about domestic violence in the community and so much more. We require all volunteers to assist with either children's program or the 24-hour hotline for a minimum of 2 hours per week for 6 months. You are welcome to volunteer in other parts of the agency in addition to your children’s program or hotline shift.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Crisis intervention skills, understanding the role of an advocate, learning the resources that are available at our agency and other outside organizations, assist survivors will goal setting, safety planning, and coping.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

The intern will be at 2 of our locations. One, is our emergency shelter at a confidential location. At all of our locations, we have cameras and secured entrances/exits that people must be buzzed in/out.
