Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of their time at GMD Labs, students will gain hands-on experience in animal husbandry, surgical support, and laboratory operations. They will learn to care for and monitor research animals, assist in surgical procedures, maintain sterile environments, and adhere to IACUC, USDA, and AAALAC compliance standards. Additionally, students will develop skills in documentation, teamwork, inventory management, and professional problem-solving, preparing them for careers in biomedical research, veterinary science, or related fields.

Opportunity Training 

At GMD Labs, students will receive comprehensive training to ensure they are well-prepared to perform their assigned responsibilities. This training will include the following key components: Students will undergo an initial orientation to familiarize them with GMD Labs' protocols, safety procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). All students will receive practical, hands-on training in animal handling, surgical assistance, and general laboratory tasks under the supervision of experienced staff. Each student will be paired with a dedicated mentor or staff member who will guide them through daily responsibilities, providing feedback and support. Students will be trained on safety measures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with regulatory standards, including Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) guidelines. Training will be tailored to specific roles, such as pre- and post-surgical care, animal welfare monitoring, and data collection, ensuring students gain proficiency in each area they are responsible for. Our comprehensive training program ensures that students are confident, competent, and capable of performing their duties effectively while adhering to the highest standards of care and safety at GMD Labs.
