Veterinary Assistant InternAt — AM PM Veterinary Hospital
We offer a chance for student pursuing a career in or are interested in learning more about veterinary medicine. No prior experience is needed, but if you have experience, we will work with you to help build on what you already know. Students will have the opportunity to shadow the veterinarian and our skilled staff and will assist with animal handling and treatments. Students may also have the opportunity to assist in surgery and learn about anesthesia.
We hope by the end of your time that you have learned the basics of animal care and wellness along with proper handling techniques. We also hope to improve communication skills and give you more confidence in this field. You will likely walk away from this knowing and demonstrating injection technique, proper restraint, basics of anesthesia monitoring, and treatment protocols for the most common ailments.
We will give training on any tasks that are asked of the students. We will also have an orientation on day one to see where their skills are and what they are comfortable with. We also usually have students make a goal sheet on what they hope to get out of the internship so we can facilitate their learning in those areas. They will be supervised at all times and will not have primary case responsibility.
We will teach proper technique for handling animals along with how to handle biohazard material.
We will need to have a copy of your drivers license and resume on file and we will do an orientation at the start of the internship to make sure our goals are aligned. Students will adhere to our dress code and hospital policies.
