Opportunity Summary 

Higher Ground Youth & Family Services offers students a hands-on opportunity to support youth and families in under-resourced communities while gaining real-world nonprofit, human services, and community engagement experience. Students will assist with program activities, outreach, classroom support, and event preparation while working alongside experienced staff in a supportive, mission-driven environment. This opportunity allows students to build professional skills, deepen their understanding of community-based services, and make a meaningful impact. By participating, students gain exposure to youth development, social services, and collaborative teamwork while contributing to programs that promote resilience, empowerment, and long-term success for children, teens, and families.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Professional communication and teamwork skills, Basics of youth development and community-based services, Program support, organization, and documentation practices. In addition, they will learn Ethical conduct, confidentiality, and professional boundaries. Time management and responsibility in a nonprofit setting

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive an onboarding orientation (1-2 hours) covering organizational policies, confidentiality, mandated reporting, professional boundaries, and trauma-informed care. Ongoing, role-specific training and weekly supervision will be provided throughout the placement.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Higher Ground prioritizes a safe, supportive environment. Students will follow established safety protocols, including staff supervision at all times, professional conduct guidelines, and confidentiality requirements. Training will be provided on appropriate interactions with youth and families. No hazardous activities are involved. Photography or videography is only permitted with prior authorization and signed media consent forms.
