Opportunity Summary 

The Plant-Based Training Program Intern opportunity provides students with hands-on experience in promoting sustainable food systems and engaging with the community. Interns will support outreach efforts by developing marketing materials, assisting with social media and event promotion, and helping to increase awareness of plant-based nutrition and sustainability initiatives. In addition, students will collect and analyze survey data to evaluate program impact, identify community needs, and support data-driven decision-making. Interns will work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment, gaining practical skills in communication, marketing, and data analysis while contributing to sustainability-focused education and community engagement.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned how to apply key concepts of plant-based food systems, including nutrition, sustainability, environmental impacts, and food processing, in real-world settings. They will gain an understanding of basic plant-based food processing techniques, product development, and considerations for quality, safety, and scalability. They will also develop practical skills in marketing and outreach, including creating educational materials and promoting programs to diverse audiences. Students will gain experience in data collection and analysis, including designing surveys, interpreting results, and using data to inform decisions. In addition, they will strengthen their communication, teamwork, and community engagement skills by working with interdisciplinary teams and interacting with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.

Opportunity Training 

Students will participate in a structured 15-week training program totaling at least 50 hours. The curriculum covers plant-based food systems, including nutrition, sustainable food production, and environmental impacts. Training includes hands-on activities in food preparation and safe food handling, as well as workshops on communication and community engagement. Students will also learn how to design and conduct surveys, analyze feedback, and deliver educational materials in culturally appropriate ways. This comprehensive training prepares students to effectively support community outreach and sustainability initiatives.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will follow all applicable safety guidelines during program activities, particularly during hands-on food processing and preparation. Training will include proper food handling, sanitation, and hygiene practices in accordance with food safety standards.
