Event Planning InternAt — Cal Poly Pomona - International Business and Marketing Department (IBM)

Opportunity Summary 

This internship focuses on event-related decisions in which students take primary responsibility, including budgeting, attendance planning, communications, promotion, outreach, and post-event reporting. With faculty guidance, this internship is designed to build practical experience in event planning, departmental engagement, and professional networking.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

1. Apply practical event planning strategies to the organization of an event. 2. Develop planning materials such as a budget, attendance estimate, timeline, communication plan, promotional plan, and outreach plan. 3. Coordinate communication with stakeholders. 4. Work in task forces to complete assigned responsibilities, provide weekly updates, and meet deadlines. 5. Contribute to the development of a stakeholder database that supports future engagement. 6. Evaluate the event through data collection, reflection, and recommendations for improvement. 7. Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and effective communication throughout the event planning process.

Opportunity Training 

Students will be supported through advisor-led guidance and provided with selected materials, examples, and general concepts related to event planning and marketing. Support will include helping students define roles and responsibilities, set deadlines, track progress, and maintain accountability. Students will make the key decisions related to the event while receiving guidance on planning, organization, communication, and execution.
