"Dear Cancer, It's Me" High School Scholarship Essay ContestAt — Cancer Support Community - Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara
This exclusive program provides an outlet for local youth impacted by cancer to share their stories, while also providing an opportunity to win one of several cash scholarship awards. Living with cancer or having a loved one with cancer can be an enormous challenge, and this contest provides an opportunity for them to express their feelings through writing. The contest is open to high school students attending schools located in CSCVVSB’s service area including Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties, San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. The student will be involved in the outreach to area schools, school districts and publicizing of the scholarship opportunity within local bulletin boards, social media and other media outlets. Student will also participate in the planning and execution of virtual awards ceremony in April, 2021.
The importance of planning, a timeline and communication both external and internal to accomplish program goals. The importance of both verbal and written communication to convey program requirements. Students will also learn about the structure and navigating school districts and school counseling personnel. Student will also learn critical research skills to uncover new avenues of publicizing the essay contest.
Student will be trained by staff on office systems and the process of the essay contest.
