Service-Learning OpportunitiesAt — One Step a la Vez
One Step is looking for students interested in helping a non-profit organization rebrand and reposition itself to better serve teens ages 13-19 in the Santa Clara River Valley. Opportunities to work on projects and campaigns surrounding marketing & communications, program development, mental wellness, and social services.
Students can serve with the following programs: Adelante, Bike Club, Conocimiento, Food Share, Project Pride, Evening Reporting Center, Circle of Careas well as tutoring.
1) English to Spanish Translation of website and other resources.
2) Overall website development
3) Development of a sustainable business that youth can run and make a small profit.
4) Support of wellness classes, homework assistance, food distribution, life skill activities, leadership classes, mentoring, counseling
5) Social justice/advocacy and community improvement committee participation.
6) Students can provide assistance and special programming with/for our after-school teen program/center.
7) Students can serve directly with at-risk populations: probationary youth, undocumented & immigrant youth, homeless youth, and youth struggling with poverty.
8) Students can serve with the LGBTQ+ weekly youth group which needs volunteers.
9) Assistance with grant writing
10) Assistance with event planning
One Step a la Vez is also interested in working directly with faculty from varied disciplines to build service-learning projects that support course outcomes.
Students will learn how to apply practical skills to strengthen organizational capacity.
Training provided will be from a professional.
There will always be staff present on-site when service-learning students are here.
