Opportunity Summary

1) Help MVC to develop bilingual signage, graphics, gallery guides, or other materials that facilitate self-led learning experiences for visitors of all ages.  Materials should use the collection items currently on display to spark curiosity in visitors, encourage them to connect on a personal or sensory level with exhibits, and convey basic learning objectives in one or more of the following fields: history, STEM, and the arts.

2) Help MVC to develop Family Learning Guides for individual galleries or gardens.  These guides should encourage children and adult caregivers to engage in dynamic tasks that require collaborative problem-solving, creative expression, and/or working as a team with children and adults taking on different roles in dramatic play/hypothetical situations.

3) Museums, as informal learning spaces, are uniquely positioned to help both teachers and parents encourage the socio-emotional development of students whose social learning experience has been severely impacted by the isolation brought on by COVID school closures.  Conduct a research project to determine the best way for MVC to help fill this need for educators and families.

The Agriculture Museum is also interested in working directly with faculty from varied disciplines to build service-learning projects that support course outcomes.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Depending on the project, students should have a better understanding of the important educational role Museums play in our society. They will have gained real world experience developing social media content to drive engagement, while also learning about local history. In the Library, students can expect to gain a better understanding of how our society records our history, as well as gaining understanding of the diverse history and culture of the county's diverse communities. Additionally, if working to survey teachers, students should learn how to develop a project plan and then execute in order to gather useful information for decision making.

Opportunity Training

Project specific training will be developed depending on the project. Each department will have one staff member assigned to oversite the project, with written guidelines and an orientation for students.
