Service-Learning OpportunitiesAt — Saticoy Food Hub
Saticoy Food Hub is a nonprofit organization building a more equitable and resilient local food system in Ventura County. We are seeking community partners interested in food systems, public health, sustainability, communications, agriculture, nonprofit management, and community development. Students will gain hands-on experience supporting local farmers, expanding food access, conducting community-based research, and advancing food justice initiatives through meaningful, real-world projects.
By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned how to apply classroom concepts to real-world community challenges while gaining experience in nonprofit operations, food systems, community engagement, project management, and equitable economic development. Students will develop professional skills in collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and leadership while contributing to initiatives that support local farmers and increase access to healthy, locally produced food.
Students will receive orientation and ongoing mentorship from Saticoy Food Hub staff. Training may include nonprofit operations, community engagement best practices, food systems and food justice principles, event coordination, data collection and evaluation methods, professional communication, project management, and program-specific procedures. Students will also gain hands-on learning through shadowing staff, participating in team meetings, and working directly on community-based projects with regular feedback and support.
Students may work in office, community, and outdoor settings. Safety guidance will be provided for assigned activities, including appropriate conduct, safe lifting practices, and sun protection when working outdoors. Students will be supervised by Saticoy Food Hub staff and will not be assigned hazardous tasks.
