Opportunity Summary

We offer monthly Citizenship Fairs at various churches and or parks in East Ventura County. The student will assist our clients in helping them fill out the information sheets needed to begin the process of acquiring US Citizenship. Students should be able to speak Spanish, have a pleasant and friendly demeanor, and make folks feel welcome. Students will be trained in a half-hour Zoom or video call with our lawyers.

Buen Vecino is also interested in working directly with faculty to create service-learning projects that support course outcomes.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Students will learn the complex requirements of beginning the process of becoming a citizen, learn to deal with community members who may be shy and afraid, and finally see the results of being a Buen Vecino (good neighbor).

Opportunity Training

For the citizenship fair, a short (virtual) training session will be provided by a lawyer. All other necessary training will be provided by the main contact.
