Opportunity Summary 

At CBI, students will have the opportunity to utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles while in the field. Under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), students will be taught and required to use the following methods in order to reduce problem behaviors amongst children: Verbal Behavior Method, Discrete Trial Teaching, Natural Environment Teaching, and others. Methods used will vary and be determined on a case-by-case basis. Students will be required to track progress and behaviors using specified data collection methods. Students will also learn and be required to complete the following throughout their externship: take session notes, graph data, maintain a logbook, and utilize stimuli materials for programming.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

1. Intern has a deeper understanding the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) 2. Intern has a deeper understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) 3. Intern has successfully completed all assignments, quizzes, trainings, and discussion for CBI’s Behavior Technician Program 4. Intern has attended and participated in a minimum of 3-5 observation sessions 5. Intern can demonstrate the basic principles of Verbal Behavior Method, Discrete Trial Training, and Implementing 1:1 Behavior Intervention 6. Intern has a better understanding of ABA / Behavior Health industry 7. Intern can demonstrate those professional skills necessary to conduct ABA

Opportunity Training 

CBI provides interns with the opportunity to learn how to utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles in order to teach skill acquisition programs and reduce problem behaviors amongst children. By learning actual methods and techniques, students will gain vital experience in the field of ABA, and exposure to working in the field of Autism and other developmental disabilities. CBI’s goal is to provide students with hands on experience in order to adequately prepare them for real life situations. Students at CBI have the opportunity to fine tune their skills by applying the techniques and methods provided by our training, as well as use those skills they have learned from class.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will always be in the presence of a supervisor, administrative staff, and/or working professional at CBI. Students will never be left alone with any client(s). Students may be asked to work independently on separate projects / assignments when remote.
