Students will have a chance to experience working with a local environmental non-profit that focuses primarily on habitat restoration and education. Habitat restoration operations mainly in the coastal sage scrub habitat, and education programs work with SoCal students of all ages. Other service learning options include: birding, hosting at the interpretive center, and administration work.
Students will learn field restoration and trail maintenance techniques with our restoration department, and how to engage with students in an informal setting. There are also greater opportunities to learn the intricacies of a functioning environmental non-profit.
General training will be provided to all participating students, and supplemental training will be provided based on the student's interests in the available service learning options.
Most service learning opportunities take place outside with minimal shade. Students should come prepared with water, work-appropriate footwear, and sun protection.
