Supporting youth programs at Khmer Girls In ActionAt — Khmer Girls In Action
The service learning volunteer will support various internal and external tasks and projects. *Examples of internal tasks (involving our building, staff, youth members, and programs): Tutoring, participating on a panel, documenting paperwork and data entry, setting up and breaking down rooms for trainings, setting up and cleaning snacks, creating a Mental Health resource list, creating training materials, cleaning and beautifying our building to maintain a safe and healthy space, observing trainings, and more. *Examples of external tasks (involving our communications and city-wide campaigns): Outreaching at community events, being trained on holding idea sessions for city youth, youth vote fair planning and implementation, supporting Know Your Rights trainings and actions, tabling, documenting events, creating content and graphics, creating social media strategies for outreaching and fundraising, and more.
Learning Objectives: Service Learners will develop organizing and campaign skill-building on local issues that impact Southeast Asian youth living in Long Beach, CA. They will strengthen relationships with community members and youth of color across the city through coalition and network building to better understand collective power and youth organizing work. They will get hands-on experiences on projects, campaigns and event planning through a race, class and gender lens that will provide a political and root cause analysis in understanding the issues young people are facing. Volunteers will work directly with our staff team and youth members to gain insight on how to best support youth needs.
Orientation Safety Trainings Facilitation Training
We are located at a gated, privately-owned building closed to the public. We have safety protcols in place, such as emergency, mandate reporting, and crowd. Service Learners might attend public events, where staff will serve as safety liaisons.
