Opportunity Summary 

Cambodia Town Film Festival (CTFF) offers students a unique opportunity to engage with a vibrant community-based cultural organization dedicated to celebrating Cambodian arts, stories, and heritage. Students will support festival planning, community outreach, and event coordination while gaining hands-on experience in communication, cultural programming, and public engagement. Through collaboration with festival organizers and community partners, students will strengthen their skills in project management, digital storytelling, and cross-cultural collaboration, contributing to the visibility and vitality of the Cambodian American community in Long Beach.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By participating in this opportunity, students will be able to:

  1. Apply academic knowledge to real-world community engagement projects through active participation in a cultural arts organization.

  2. Develop communication and collaboration skills by working closely with community partners, festival organizers, and diverse audiences.

  3. Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when engaging with Cambodian American histories, arts, and community narratives.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive orientation and ongoing mentorship from the Cambodia Town Film Festival planning team and the CSULB Center for Community Engagement. Training will include:

  • Pre-placement orientation on the mission and goals of the Cambodia Town Film Festival, community engagement expectations, and cultural awareness when representing the Cambodian community.

  • Project-specific guidance in event coordination, communication strategies, and media documentation (photography, videography, social media).

  • Supervisory check-ins throughout the semester to review progress, set goals, and address challenges related to logistics or community engagement.

  • Post-event debrief and reflection to connect the service experience with academic learning, professional development, and community impact.
