CSULB Office of Sustainability - Zero Waste AmbassadorAt — CSULB Office of Sustainability
The CSULB Office of Sustainability’s Zero Waste Ambassadors volunteer program provides students with the opportunity to support the university’s waste diversion efforts by providing education to event attendees about proper waste sorting practices. Activities will primarily be focused on sport events inside the Walter Pyramid, where Zero Waste Ambassadors will be stationed near waste bin stations to assist attendees in understanding how to sort their waste into three streams: compostable/organic materials, recyclables, and landfill waste. Zero Waste Ambassadors will collect data during events and engage directly with patrons to provide friendly assistance and education about the importance of proper waste sorting and how it relates to climate action. In addition to conducting outreach and education at events, Zero Waste Ambassadors will also help conduct waste audits to gather data about the program and diversion rates.

An asynchronous training program must be completed before fulfilling responsibilities. Participants will watch a video recording of our training presentation, then complete an online survey to test their understanding of the material. A passing score will be required to continue with the program. On-site support and additional training will also be provided by the program supervisor during volunteer shifts.
