Determined HealthAt — Determined Health
Step into a practicum that actually changes lives. As a Community Caller with Determined Health’s CallClub program, you’ll build meaningful one-on-one connections with older adults and other vulnerable community members who are often isolated and overlooked. Through scheduled phone calls, you’ll offer conversation, encouragement, and resources that can reduce loneliness and improve health and well-being.
This role is perfect if you care about social justice, mental health, aging, or healthcare—and want hands-on experience that stands out on grad school or job applications. You’ll gain real-world communication skills, trauma-informed listening experience, and mentorship from an interdisciplinary team.
All students and identities are welcome. If you’ve ever wanted your practicum to feel like it matters, this is your chance.
By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned to:
- Describe key trends in U.S. and global population aging and explain why they matter for health, policy, and everyday life.
- Recognize and critically reflect on stereotypes and popular images of aging, and how these shape their own attitudes toward older adults and their own aging.
- Distinguish normal age-related changes from those associated with common illnesses using a biopsychosocial lens.
- Conduct and synthesize an in-depth life history interview with an older adult, using reminiscence techniques and gerontology theories.
- Find, interpret, and apply high-quality research on aging to real-world situations and careers.
- Compare how aging is experienced across different races, ethnicities, genders, abilities, cultures, and places.
- Identify and evaluate community resources that support older adults and their families.
- Practice skills in communication, empathy, ethical reflection, and wellness planning that support healthy aging across the lifespan.
