Community Programs & Outreach InternAt — AOC 7 - CLIMB Central Long Beach
CLIMB Central Long Beach is seeking students to support community programs, outreach, communications, and nonprofit operations. Students will gain hands-on experience working with a community-based nonprofit while assisting with outreach, program and event planning, digital communications, administrative projects, and community engagement. Responsibilities include a combination of remote work, virtual meetings, and in-person community programs and events held throughout Central Long Beach.
By the end of the opportunity, students will have gained practical experience in nonprofit operations, community engagement, outreach, communications, and program and event coordination. Students will learn how community-based programs are planned and implemented, how nonprofit organizations communicate with residents and partners, and how outreach and digital communications support organizational goals. Students will also strengthen their professional communication, teamwork, organization, time management, and project management skills.
Students will receive an orientation covering CLIMB Central Long Beach's mission, programs, community served, organizational procedures, internship expectations, communication practices, and safety guidelines. Students will also receive training and guidance specific to assigned projects, community outreach, communications, programs, and events. Additional instructions and event-specific training will be provided as needed throughout the placement.
In-person activities take place at community locations such as parks, schools, libraries, and partner facilities rather than at a single permanent CLIMB site. Students receive location and event information in advance and are expected to follow CLIMB and host-site safety procedures. Students may interact with children and youth during community programs and events but are not assigned to provide unsupervised childcare. Students receive event-specific safety instructions and have access to a designated CLIMB supervisor during in-person activities.
