During this experience, students will be able to:
- See how a teachers' union operates in direct support of its membership.
- Engage in the political process of legislation that will directly impact their community.
- Visit diverse learning environments to broaden their educational perspectives.
If you are considering a career as an educator, counselor, SLP, school nurse, librarian, or psychologist, you will gain direct field experience working alongside veteran professionals in these fields.
Additionally, you will gain exposure to the many facets that directly impact the classroom, including community issues as well as local, state, and federal politics.
By the end of the student community partnership, participants should ideally gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in public education. This includes insights into funding, instruction, community involvement, and the various local, state, and federal mandates that impact the system.
Please note that all student activities will require a training session prior to participation. Additionally, a debrief will be conducted after each activity to assess learning.
There are no specific safety concerns. Very similar to what one may experience on a university campus.
