Students who are employed at a school district may use their school that they are employed at.
Returning Students: New semester, new letter. NO EXCEPTIONS. You will not be able to start if this is not completed.
- All students will need to have a VALID CTC clearance and TB test prior to placement. For liability reasons, we would need proof that you have those submitted.
- Students will need to submit a letter written from your direct supervisor on official school letter head explaining your job duties, who you will be working with, and if this placement meets the SERVE placement conditions. You will hear a reply within 3-5 days of your status.
- There is no format, but make sure you give whomever your supervisor is a format to follow explaining how your job is an appropriate placement for SERVE. Placement at your worksite is not guaranteed.
SERVE Conditions of placement:
EDEL 200: INTRODUCTION TO THE TEACHING PROFESSION, 45 hours. Student will participate in a regular, self-contained K-8 classroom, preferably an inclusive classroom, in a core academic area (not departmentalized, special education, computer labs, after-school programs, etc.) Cooperating teacher has a professional teaching credential with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience. Must be in a public school setting.
EDEL 300: EDEL 300: CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY IN SCHOOLS, 40 hours. Student will participate in an urban K-8 classroom, preferably in an inclusive classroom. Cooperating teacher has a professional teaching credential with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
Once you obtain all 3 completed documents, please submit your CTC and TB test on the s4 @ the beach online system (https://app.calstates4.com/csulb/ ) and the letter to Dennis Esmeralda in College of Education, EED-66.

Associated Students, Inc. is a nonprofit membership association and auxiliary organization of California State University, Long Beach. Committed to the principle of student self-determination in the shared governance of the university, the Associated Students of CSULB seeks to facilitate the achievement of students’ educational objectives and life goals through programs, services, and facilities that advocate student needs and interests, compel student representation in campus decision making and provide students with resources that they identify as necessary for their intellectual, social and physical development.
