Opportunity Summary 

Service Learning participants will have the opportunity to engage with Otter Media through our Community Broadcasting Team.

This team, consisting of other CSUMB Service Learners and other Otter Media volunteers, are responsible for developing stories and filming community and campus events to be broadcasted to OM74 and MCEAT, both campus and Monterey County public access channels.

Other responsibilities can include based on individual interest and time:

  • Supporting Otter Media live broadcasting through both on campus and community events, such as Otter Thursdays or Farmers Markets.

  • Supporting Otter Media media projects. These projects change based on semester and general interest from service learners and volunteers. These projects are in collaboration with both internal and external partners.

  • Supporting Otter Media live events such as concerts, and AS town Hall events. These are typically require longer days and involve nights and weekends.

  • General upkeep of Otter Media studio, equipment, and software programs (scheduling, organizing files, etc.)

 

As a service learning site and community media center, Otter Media is committed to engaging not only the CSUMB community, but the greater Monterey County area. It is expected that service learners dedicate a portion of their hours to either:

  1. Community Broadcasting Team covering local, off campus events
  2. engaging community members through The Current Talk Show
  3. Outreach to local musicians to perform at upcoming Otter Media events.

Approval of hours will be dependent on meeting this requirement.

Opportunity Training 

Students will need to attend an orientation meeting before accruing hours.  Students will also need to participate in trainings on Otter Media camera equipment usage and station operations.
