Student Organizer - Californians for Pesticide ReformAt — Monterey Bay Central Labor Council (MBCLC)
Reserved for students in GS 339S with Dr. Angie Tran.
Safe Ag Safe Schools is leading the fight to prioritize public health over corporate profits in industrial agriculture. Monterey Bay Central Labor Council and Californians for Pesticide Reform - along with many other organizations - are involved in struggles to achieve the first statewide public pesticide notification system in the world and also to restrict the use of fumigant pesticides -- the most commonly used highly hazardous pesticides in the Central Coast region.
Service learners must be willing to travel, perhaps to Greenfield and/or Watsonville. Bilingual Spanish/English service learners requested.
2 service learner spots
Requirements:
- Driver's License
- Must have own transportation
- Must be 18 or older
Basic organizing training over the course of the semester.
Expect to meet weekly with supervisor.
SUPERVISION: Students may be required to work at night (after 6pm). Or, students may be supervised less than 50% of the time or the supervisor will be overseeing more than 8 people.
Some public events will be in the evening, which may be dark in the winter time. It is possible that more than half of the work will be done without an immediate supervisor, as work is assigned to be completed away from the office. This means service learners will have to watch out for and actively work to minimize risks solely and independently.
