Race for Open Space - Service Learner CrewAt — Big Sur Land Trust (BSLT)
Each spring people of all ages and fitness levels join Big Sur Land Trust’s Race for Open Space – our largest annual fundraising event – to support healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities. In 2024, hundreds of runners, hikers, and walkers along with our generous sponsors raised funds for the lands we all love in Monterey County.
The Race for Open Space Service Learner will:

Formulate and execute a plan to distribute Race for Open Space flyers throughout the CSUMB campus.

Under the direction of BSLT staff, distribute Race for Open Space flyers to businesses throughout the Monterey Peninsula.

Create CSUMB Race for Open Space team(s) and recruit registrants.

Volunteer as part of Big Sur Land Trust’s ‘Green Team’, helping to sweep the Big Sur International Marathon course on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Volunteer all-day as part of Big Sur Land Trust’s Race for Open Space on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
-
Assist BSLT staff with pre- and post-Race for Open Space tasks, as needed.

Requirements:

Driver's License

Must be 18 or older

Must have own transportation to Big Sur Land Trust's preserves
Students will be given a customized Big Sur Land Trust volunteer orientation to familiarize with Big Sur Land Trust's history, mission/vision, major programs, major projects, and organizational structure.
Students will receive support and supervision from Big Sur Land Trust staff members Burke Boynton (BSLT Donor Relations Coordinator; Race for Open Space co-director) and Jenny Jacox (BSLTChief Strategy Officer).
Students should be prepared to work outdoors.
