MCHS Local History Pages Redesign ProjectAt — Monterey County Historical Society (MCHS)
In the founding fall 1995 semester of CSU Monterey Bay, CSUMB Instructor and former MCHS President Dr. Gary Breschini launched the beginnings of a student Service Learning project devoted to creating a Local History Website. That website was designed such that it has drawn thousands of visitors over the course of the past 29 years, and has since been adopted by the Monterey County Historical Society as its Local History section. However, the Local History pages were designed such that they are no longer compatible with the main webpage of the Society located at http://mchsmuseum.com/salinas/. The Local History Pages are in turn located via Index at http://mchsmuseum.com/salinas/index/mchs-main-index/.
5 service learners
- Computer Literacy
- Must be 18 or older
We anticipate that students will have basic website design skills, and can work either remotely, or in a hybrid fashion to see through the redesign of existing web content located at http://mchsmuseum.com/salinas/index/mchs-main-index/. Students will work under the guidance of recently retired Professor Ruben Mendoza of the CSUMB Archaeology Program.
Professor Mendoza will provide support in revising existing content, and working to provide images, documents, and other materials to enhance the Local History Pages under revision.
Please write Professor Mendoza at rumendoza@csumb.edu, or contact him at (831) 320-9360. The principal requirement is that the SL student will have basic web design skills, and can work collaboratively with other students and Professor Mendoza.
