Opportunity Summary 

As a part of the UCSC Educational Partnership Center (EPC), undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a community college or university are being recruited to fill Family Involvement Coordinator intern positions.

The Family Involvement Coordinator will participate in efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to a four-year university. The Family Involvement Coordinator will provide parent educational and outreach services designed to motivate parents of middle school and high school students to prepare academically for higher education, including: advising on college preparation, conducting parent workshops, and mobilizing and training parents to promote a college-going culture at assigned schools.

Prospective interns need to be enrolled in school full time, and can work a maximum of 15-19 hours per week. 

Service learner spots vary by semester.

Requirements:

  • Must be full-time student (12+ units)
  • Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
  • Computer Literacy
  • Must be 18 or older
  • TB Test - negative result
  • Bilingual Desired, but not required
  • Transportation must be reliable
  • Desire to work with educational disadvantaged and low-income middle school parents and
    students
  • Sensitivity to diverse racial, ethnic, and/or low socioeconomic groups

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Maintain a good academic standing
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and Spanish
  • Possession of valid California Driver’s License
  • Familiarity working with parents/ families
  • Experience presenting and facilitating workshops
  • Knowledge about A-G college requirements, financial aid programs, and the college application process

 

This is a part-time job, 15 hours per week.  Needed availability: Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm.

Opportunity Training 

Onboarding and ongoing training to be able to carry out all assigned tasks mentioned above will be provided. Supervision will be in-person. Professional development workshops and training will be offered to interns carrying out services to our students.
