Have you ever been interested in research practice in social work? Have you ever wanted to try your hand at research analysis tools like SPSS or NVivo? Do you want to learn about engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation skills in research practice. The myChoice Project is seeking a MSW student to help the study investigator with instrument development, implementing study protocols, organizing study meetings with different constituencies. Students will have the opportunity to conduct interviews, analyze both quantitative and qualitative data. Students are expected to be able to use computer software (Google drive, sheets, docs) and have some experience conducting reviews of the literature.
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to:
1. Understand and apply social work research ethics and confidentiality in research practice
2. Understand and apply good data management and administrative skills in research practice
3. Engage and apply interviewing skills to conduct interviews with research participants
4. Engage and apply analytic skills to quantitative data by running descriptive statistics and preparing reports for the research team.
5. Assess qualitative and quantitative data using SPSS and NVivo to conduct statistical (SPSS) and thematic (NVivo) analyses.
6. Conduct relevant literature searches for the research team.
7. Prepare scientific reports based on data analyses and present to the research team.
8. Evaluate the research findings based on understanding of relevant theories related to social work practice.
9. Assist in the development of scientific grant proposals.
10. Develop and implement dissemination of research findings to different interest groups.
11. Understand the implications of diversity, equity, and inclusion as applied to parents of children with mental health disabilities.
MSW Research intern will be provided with opportunities to engage in formal research practice training (online webinars, YouTube short videos, in person short training courses) as determined through the development of the student learning plan.
