CAMP Service LearningAt — College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
Service learning opportunities for CAMP students can align with the program’s goals of recruitment, retention, and comprehensive support. Engaging students in projects that promote community outreach and education can enhance recruitment by increasing CAMP’s visibility while empowering students to serve as ambassadors.
Service learning also supports by fostering a sense of belonging and purpose, as students apply their experiences to real-world settings. Opportunities that focus on financial literacy, such as assisting peers with FAFSA completion workshops, align with CAMP's objectives and encourage persistence.
Exposing students to STEM-related service learning projects—such as working with local environmental organizations or tech-focused nonprofits—can help spark interest in STEM fields, broadening academic horizons.
Additionally, service learning cultivates academic, professional, and personal growth by offering leadership opportunities, networking, and hands-on experience. Through this support, CAMP students not only enhance their skills but also build a deeper connection to their academic journey and future career paths.
Reserved for Jesus Sanche Bernabe (Fall 2024)
Program Orientation: An initial orientation will introduce students to the goals and objectives of CAMP service learning, emphasizing the importance of recruitment, retention, and FAFSA completion efforts.
Leadership and Peer Mentoring: Training in leadership skills and peer mentoring techniques will equip students to serve as ambassadors, guiding others in academic and financial aid processes while developing strong interpersonal communication skills.
Regular Check-ins: Supervisors will hold weekly or bi-weekly one-on-one check-ins with students to discuss their progress, address challenges, and provide guidance. This ensures that students stay on track and have an opportunity to seek advice.
Interested students should submit a brief application outlining their interest in service learning, their experience (if any), and how they hope to contribute to the goals of CAMP.
Applications can be submitted via email and include a resume highlighting relevant academic, volunteer, or work experiences.
