Opportunity Training

TRAINING

The training program for Campus Visit Ambassadors spans two days and is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in their role.

Day 1 focuses on building a strong foundation. The day begins with a warm welcome and orientation session that introduces the Campus Visit Ambassador program and emphasizes the significance of CSUMB’s University Promise initiative. Participants will learn how their work impacts the sixth-grade students they’ll guide and the broader Monterey County community. Ambassadors will then dive into a detailed overview of CSUMB, including its history, mission, academic programs, and campus landmarks, to ensure they are well-prepared to answer questions and represent the university.

The afternoon is dedicated to tour guide training, where ambassadors will explore best practices for conducting engaging and informative tours, tailored specifically for young learners. They will also learn how to manage groups safely and effectively. A practical session follows, allowing ambassadors to practice leading mock tours and receive constructive feedback. The day concludes with a session on communication and engagement skills, where ambassadors will learn strategies to connect with students, foster enthusiasm, and navigate challenging scenarios through role-playing activities.

Day 2 focuses on specialized skills and practical application. It begins with an overview of program logistics, including daily schedules, time management, and collaboration with teachers, chaperones, and CSUMB staff. A Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training session follows, helping ambassadors understand the diverse backgrounds of Monterey County students and ensuring all visits are inclusive and welcoming.

The final segment involves full practice tours, where participants refine their skills with feedback from trainers. The day concludes with a Q&A session, a review of program policies, and the distribution of resources, ensuring that each ambassador is fully prepared to inspire and guide students confidently.
