Folklorico Dance Assistant Teaching InternAt — Alisal Center for the Fine Arts (ACFA)

Opportunity Summary 

The Folkloric Dance Assistant Teaching Artist Intern will support ACFA’s Ballet Folklórico
program, which offers instruction in traditional Mexican dance. Interns will assist with
rehearsals, costume preparation, choreography support, and student guidance during
performances. This role provides cultural arts immersion and practical teaching experience in
dance education.

1 Service Learner Slot

Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching artist with warm-ups, choreography, and rehearsal management.
  • Assist youth dancers in learning steps, rhythm, and performance etiquette.
  • Help with costumes, props, and stage preparation.
  • Encourage teamwork, discipline, and pride in cultural traditions.
  • Assist in preparing students for community performances and celebrations.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in dance education and/or traditional Mexican folkloric dance.
  • Experience in dance, movement, or choreography preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to support students in rehearsals, stage preparation, and costuming.
  • Ability to model discipline, teamwork, and cultural pride for youth.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings (Mon, Wed & some Fri, 5–9pm)
