Opportunity Summary 

Ecology Action is a distinguished nonprofit organization committed to advancing sustainable
change in our community, economy, and environment. Renowned for leadership in energy
efficiency programs, Ecology Action features a dynamic green communities division focused on
pollution prevention, sustainable transportation, and water conservation. We are seeking
motivated candidates to join our community engagement and project management efforts.

20 Service Learner Slots

This role combines in-person and virtual work. On-site coordination happens at the Ecology
Action office in Salinas, CA, where interns have access to guest desks, conference rooms,
kitchens, essential amenities, and secure bike parking. There are also additional locations at Santa Cruz, CA and Watsonville, CA.

Responsiblities:

Under the guidance of Marisol Diaz, interns will support Monterey County community programs and gain experience through the following initiatives:

  • EVs for Everyone
  • Safe Routes to Schools
  • Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure Planning
  • Resilient Central Coast Campaign
  • Climate Victory Gardens
  • Climate Justice Collaborative
  • Community Biking
  • Monterey County Program Initiatives
  • Partnering with K-12 schools across the Central Coast to teach students safe biking and street-crossing practices
  • Organizing fairs with bike obstacle courses
  • The Monterey County Friendly Landscape team engages the community to convert grassy areas into water-smart landscaping
  • Community engagement through tabling at events and networking with partners and stakeholders

Opportunity Supervision

You will report to Marisol Diaz, who will provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Regular meetings ensure your progress is supported and any questions are addressed.
