Biodiversity Monitor - RegenCAAt — Regenerative California (RegenCA)

Regenerative California is working to demonstrate regenerative economies, one that adds health to the land and communities as opposed to being extractive. One way Regenerative California is working to do this is by establishing a regenerative farm. This farm will model a holistic system that improves food nutrient density, increased soil carbon sequestration and water retention; through increasing biodiversity, minimizing soil disturbance, and rotating crops. This farm also provides leases to small and mid-sized farmers who often struggle for land access.

Students will collect observational data about the biodiversity seen on the farm, with a priority to bird species. This opportunity is a great way to see how hedgerow, habitat, and bird and bat boxes increase the biodiversity at the farm. While data will be collected on the farm, its analysis can be done remotely.

Other potential projects / opportunities for the farm include:

• creating educational resources
• storytelling
• video editing
• soil and water testing
• open for students to pick & design their own

Requirements:

• Must be 18 or older
• Pre-training safety protocols
• Students will need to get themselves to the farm
