Continuum Hospice is seeking compassionate and reliable student volunteers who want to make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients and families receiving end-of-life care. Hospice focuses on comfort, dignity, and emotional support.
As a volunteer, your role is to provide, companionship, and understanding during a important stage of life. Volunteers visit patients at home or in care facilities to:
- talk, read, share stories, play music, or offer companionship
- provide respite and emotional support to caregivers
Patients could be at home or in care facilities in all three neighboring counties - Monterey, Santa Cruz, & San Benito. While our main office is in Capitola, volunteers will be in the surrounding communities - in an area/zone realistically accessible to you as a volunteer.
Locations could include:
- Hollister
- Gilroy
- Morgan Hill
- Watsonville
- Santa Cruz
- Salinas
- Monterey
- Marina
- Seaside
- Soledad
- Greenfield, etc.
This is a powerful opportunity for students interested in:
- psychology
- social work
- counseling
- nursing
- public health
- human services
- or anyone who wants to strengthen communication skills, emotional intelligence, and cultural sensitivity
Volunteers receive comprehensive training, ongoing guidance.
By joining our team, students gain meaningful experience working alongside nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals, while also contributing to a mission rooted in compassion, and respect.

Requirements:
- Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
- Driver's License
- Own transportation
- Health Check/Screening (e.g. temperature screening, COVID-19 test)
- TB Test
- Must be 18 or older
- Pre-Placement Training
Volunteers receive comprehensive training, ongoing guidance. Everything needed for the volunteer position will be provided.
Opportunity Supervision
Visits will be accompanied by the Volunteer Coordinator until the student feels comfortable with going alone. The Volunteer Coordinator is always available if the student needs to talk or has questions.
