Program Data Analysis & Reporting ProjectAt — United Way of the Monterey County (UWMC)

Opportunity Summary

What is VITA?
VITA is a nationally supported program that provides free, high-quality tax preparation to low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Each year, VITA helps people claim refunds, tax credits, and financial stability they might otherwise miss.

Why this matters:
Tax refunds can be life-changing. For many households, they help cover rent, pay down debt, or build emergency savings. Behind every return is a system that needs accurate data to ensure services are equitable, efficient, and reaching the people who need them most.

What you’ll do and gain:
Students will work with real (de-identified) program data to clean datasets, analyze trends, and create simple reports and visuals used for planning and decision-making. You’ll gain hands-on experience in applied data analysis, reporting, and communicating insights for social impact—skills directly relevant to careers in tech, data, business, and public service.
