This opportunity will greatly benefit the student teacher by providing meaningful hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment. Through this experience, the student teacher will be able to apply the knowledge and strategies learned in coursework to real classroom situations. Working alongside experienced educators will allow the student teacher to observe effective teaching practices, classroom management techniques, and ways to support diverse learners.
In addition, the student teacher will gain confidence in lesson planning, instructional delivery, and building positive relationships with students and families. This opportunity also provides valuable mentorship and feedback, which are essential for professional growth. Ultimately, the experience will help the student teacher develop the skills, reflection, and adaptability needed to become an effective educator who can support student learning and create an inclusive classroom environment.
3 Service Learner Spots
Students will receive training and guidance from the mentor teacher and program staff to prepare them for their responsibilities in the classroom. This training will include an overview of classroom expectations, child development principles, and developmentally appropriate teaching practices. Students will also receive support in lesson planning, classroom management strategies, and ways to create inclusive learning environments that support diverse learners.
In addition, students will be guided on how to observe children’s learning, document progress, and adapt instruction to meet individual needs. Ongoing feedback, modeling, and reflection with the mentor teacher will help students strengthen their teaching skills and build confidence in their role. This combination of training, mentorship, and hands-on experience will help ensure students are prepared to effectively support children’s learning and development.
Opportunity Supervision
Ongoing support and supervision will be provided through regular check-ins, mentoring, and feedback sessions with the mentor teacher and program staff. Students will receive guidance on lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional strategies, with opportunities to ask questions and discuss challenges as they arise. Observations and modeling by the mentor teacher will help students see effective practices in action.
Additionally, students will participate in reflection sessions to evaluate their progress, set goals, and identify areas for growth. Resources, coaching, and constructive feedback will be provided consistently to ensure students feel supported, develop confidence, and are able to successfully fulfill their classroom responsibilities while enhancing their professional skills.
