Habitat Stewardship Project Monterey Bay is a community and school based environmental education program dedicated to involving students (Kindergarten through University) and the community in native habitat restoration. Our mission is to bring nature closer to people, and people closer to nature through hands-on experiences in community based habitat restoration and environmental education.
Your service with HSP will include:
- participation in community cleanup and planting events in parks and wildlands,
- assisting with environmental education field trips for youth, and
- the potential to work with community volunteers at our native plant nursery on campus.
A positive attitude and a love of the outdoors is highly encouraged.
Must be willing to work outdoors in various terrains and weather.
A background check is required for work in schools.
25 service learning students
We will have an orientation and training where you will learn how to lead activities, plant, and support program staff. You will shadow our staff as needed to learn how programs are delivered. Most training will be hands-on at our location or in the areas we serve.
Opportunity Supervision
Staff will be always be available to support and supervise our service learners. If you are comfortable with the organization, you may elect to do outreach activities such as tabling with little to no supervision but that will be on a voluntary basis.
Work outdoors on uneven terrain. Some use of hand tools.
