Our History
Since 1997, the Monterey County Youth Museum (MY Museum) has provided children with an unparalleled learning experience. MY Museum began as a Junior League project and has since evolved into a community-based, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.
Prior to moving into its current facility in November of 2008, the museum occupied a 2,700 square foot facility on Cannery Row. The original facility was successful for its size, but never really allowed the organization to grow in the way that the staff and board envisioned. After the purchase of a building in downtown Monterey, a successful four-year and capital campaign the museum is now where it once only aspired to be. The museum is approximately three times the size with nine gallery areas and over 50 exhibits. Each gallery playfully represents the key industries that make Monterey County unique.
