Lucas Museum Education InternshipAt — Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
The newly-founded Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Exposition Park seeks an intern to join the Youth K-12 Education team. The intern will join a team of educators who 1) Empower the personal narratives of young people, educators, and multigenerational audiences 2) Amplify their stories through art, and 3) Connect their narratives to those in their community and the world. Over the course of the academic semester, the intern will shadow, support, and learn to facilitate the student roundtables that inform the work of the Youth K-12 team. They will read the educational theories that underpin the work of the team, engage in the analysis of feedback/data culled from student roundtables, and learn to present the data to internal museum audiences. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to meet museum professionals and learn more about the various departments and careers in the field.
Explore pedagogical strategies, materials, and tools for teaching art in diverse school or community settings. Design visual art activities for students, families, or other community participants centered around contemporary art education themes/Big Ideas. Engage in and reflect on art education experiences in community settings: art classrooms, art museums, or with community arts organizations. Facilitate learning experiences for peers based on the needs of the organization
Student will be paired with a mentor to shadow in community programs, and provided opportunities to debrief after each. In addition, student will be provided training materials to review, exemplars of materials and data analysis, and the opportunity to prepare and workshop drafts of workshops before facilitating one.
