Interior Design Department StudentsAt — Refugee Children Center

Opportunity Summary 

There are developing renovation projects occurring on our shared campus in North Hills, CA. The campus is less than 20 minutes from the CSUN campus. Interior Design students have the opportunity to collaborate with campus partners to implement thoughtful and trauma-informed designs for our various workspaces including intake offices, storage rooms, and communal spaces including an early childhood classroom utilizing incoming funds. Funds will encourage trauma-informed design and energy efficient lighting, electric equipment, and solar-powered equipment, helping the campus to "go green".Internship opportunities will fulfill Community Service-Learning hours.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will gain versatile real-life skills based on their field of study. Student design projects may be implemented into existing office spaces with the opportunity to promote professional experience. Students will learn to collaborate with communities of color, low-income families, migrant families, and Spanish-speaking individuals who receive social services, food and basic need relief, and linkage to other community resources.

Opportunity Training 

Agency onboarding training, trauma-informed care, cultural humility training, and community-based research training.
