This is a unique opportunity for students studying American Sign Language (ASL) to provide direct, hands-on support to Deaf and hard-of-hearing adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities at the 23fifteen Workman facility. As an intern, you will assist with daily living activities, engage in structured activities both on-site and in the community, and act as a crucial communication link for residents and staff. The role allows for the practical application and refinement of your ASL interpretation skills in a real-world setting. This is more than a job; it's a chance to directly enhance the quality of life for individuals who rely on ASL as their primary language.
How to provide direct personal support to adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities. How to effectively apply ASL skills, including interpretation, in a professional care setting. The process of monitoring, reporting, and documenting daily activities and resident progress. How to advocate for the rights of residents. How to build professional rapport and collaborate with diverse individuals and teams.
Students will receive ongoing professional development through mandatory monthly meetings and in-service training sessions. This training will focus on behavioral intervention strategies and general support skills to ensure students are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively.
