Community Resilience and Restoration InternshipAt — Resilient Palisades
Students will support hands-on community resilience efforts in Pacific Palisades, focused on post-fire recovery, environmental restoration, and public outreach. Interns will assist with invasive plant removal, native habitat restoration, and community events, while also supporting education and resource-sharing efforts for residents rebuilding after wildfire. This is a field-based and community-facing role that provides direct experience in environmental work, nonprofit operations, and climate resilience in practice.
Students will gain practical skills in environmental restoration, including identifying and removing invasive species and supporting native habitat recovery. They will learn how community-based organizations respond to disaster recovery and support residents through outreach and education. Students will also build experience in teamwork, public engagement, and organizing small-scale events and initiatives in a real-world setting.
Students will receive an initial orientation covering safety, restoration basics, and an overview of Resilient Palisades’ work in post-fire recovery. Ongoing guidance will be provided during field days and events, with hands-on instruction in identifying invasive species, proper removal techniques, and community engagement. Training is primarily experiential, with direct supervision and support from team leads during activities.
Field work may involve outdoor conditions, uneven terrain, and use of basic hand tools for invasive plant removal. Students will receive safety guidance, wear appropriate protective gear, and be supervised during all activities. Participation is voluntary and activities are adjusted based on conditions.
Students should submit a brief statement of interest describing why they are interested in community resilience, environmental work, or post-fire recovery. A resume is encouraged but not required. Selected applicants may be invited to a short virtual or phone interview to confirm availability, expectations, and fit for a field-based, community-facing role. Preference will be given to students who are reliable, comfortable working outdoors, and interested in hands-on work with a local nonprofit.
