Personal Services Coordinator-InternAt — Hope Cooperative - New Direction
You will have the opportunity to provide case management services to adults who are disenfranchised. The clients have been given a mental health diagnosis and are a part of our community mental health program. We have four programs; 3 in Sacramento and one in Yolo County. The work is primarily out in the community; meeting the client in their environment. You will work with individuals who are on different paths of their life journey. They may be unhoused or housed; they may be in substance use recovery or still in their addiction. They may be seeking employment; they may be wanting to re-connect with their family. They may be getting out of a psych hospital or jail. This placement offers interaction with a diverse population.
Students will learn the day to day challenges of living in poverty. They will lean about meeting the client where they are at and harm reduction services. They will learn about the fragility of housing and how difficult it can be to find housing for the unhoused. They will learn about trauma and the unfortunate shame of homelessness, mental illness and substance use. Students will learn about MediCal billing progress notes and the county's electronic health record keeping system. If the student is a master's level, there will be opportunity to provide therapy and do formal assessments.
