In line with the mission of Solano County Behavioral Health, the student will have varied opportunities to provide counseling services within our diverse and growing community. With the values of hope, empowerment, resilience, Master’s students will receive extensive training and support to find proficiency in assessment, treatment and best practice services for children, youth or adults who experience serious mental health and co-occurring substance use challenges. There are different opportunities to fit your interests including office and community-based services, serving specialty populations like people exiting jails, homeless, foster care youth, families, and others, Master’s students can gain extensive experience in a variety of systems. Our Master’s Level Internship prepares future practitioners on cultural humility, trauma informed care, and evidence-based practices to offer the most appropriate interventions.

Assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, community resources, case management, crisis response, crisis assessment, short term therapy, variety of screening and assessment tool dependent on unit, case conceptualization and presentation, evidenced based practices dependent on unit, trauma informed systems, diversity and equity topics, navigating systems, documentation and electronic health record and more.
We provide a 9-12 month internship with the expectation of minimum 16 hours per week. Each student will receive a field supervisor to meet with them weekly in addition to other supervisory supports depending on the unit that the student is matched with. Student will receive regular didactic training and opportunities for pursuing outside trainings in areas of interest. Because we have a variety of opportunities, students will be able to gain experiences with different populations and focus areas.
The county is currently following all health orders (COVID) in regards to masking and Social Distancing. The outpatient clinics for adults and children are under a health order that mandates all that work in the clinic be vaccinated and boosted(if booster eligible.) All interns receive further safety training when they are placed here.
