Juvenile Justice Intervention Services Student InternAt — Stanford Sierra Youth and Families

Opportunity Summary 

The JJIS Student Intern coordinates with the program team members to provide community based, comprehensive, strength-based, culturally competent, trauma informed, flexible, effective, mental health services and supports to eligible at-risk children, youth, and families. The JJIS intern provides services in accordance with County Probation and Family Centered Practice principles, including family voice and choice provided in collaboration with those individuals and agencies involved with the child or youth. Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of the agency.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

How to develop and facilitate rehabilitative and/or skill building groups using models including but not limited to The Seven Challenges and Seeking Safety; Develop and prepare updates to individualized safety plans in coordination with youth’s child family team, maximizing the use of natural supports and community based resources; Provide other case management functions as necessary, securing formal resources, and keeping team members informed of progress and challenges presented; Coordinate and facilitate initial intake meetings with families, meeting agency and probation timelines and expectations; Participate in Child Family Team (CFT), multi-disciplinary team, hospital, crisis, psychiatric, court, school, and provider meetings as scheduled

Opportunity Training 

Roles and expectations of internship placement. Mandatory workplace trainings include: HIPAA/Confidentiality, Employee/Intern Handbook & Workplace Norms, Workplace Safety, Mental Health Compliance, Mandated Reporter, Family Centered Practices, Cultural Competency, etc. Field Safety, Working with Community Partners, Safety Plans, Mental Health Documentation, etc. Trauma Informed Care, Cultural Competency, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), etc.
