Mental Health and Health and Aging FocusAt — Napa State Hospital
Students work directly with an interdisciplinary treatment team for individuals with chronic and persistent mental health challenges. Overall the three arms of treatment include individuals with a civil commitment (conserved), Incompetent to Stand Trial (gain stability to attend court and are legally given up to 2 years to regain competency), Long Term, Not Guilty by Insanity (NGI) (Individuals have chronic mental health challenges that led to the committing of a more serious crime, where they receive compassionate treatment leading to return to the community.
Assessments, Individual and group treatment modalities, community integration linkages, multiple treatment modalities, including DBT, CBT, TIC, and case management. Students are given a small caseload with the focus on growing into an effective social worker.
Students receive extensive training, including 4 weeks of intensive DBT training, Trauma Informed Care Training, Hospice inservices, UC Davis School of Psychiatry weekly training from Dr. Charles Scott and Psychiatry fellows and residents. Students are part of an interdisciplinary treatment team with Rehabilitation therpists, including Dance and Movement Therapists, Music Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Art Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Nursing, and Medical Doctors.
COVID vaccination is required with religious exemptions allowed.
