Opportunity Summary 

The Veterinary Social Work Intern will provide direct services and support to clients (pet owners), including those experiencing bereavement, high stress or emotionality.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Interns will meet with clients or make follow-up contact as requested by the veterinary team to provide short term support during patient (pet) emergencies, hospitalizations, or specialty appointments; Support clients during end-of-life decision making for their pet and before or during euthanasia; Provide pet loss/grief support to clients; co-facilitate Pet Caregiver Support Group; Link clients with community resources as needed; Develop resources for hospital(s) and present topics relevant to veterinary team; Maintain proficient documentation as required by hospital policy.

Opportunity Training 

All interns complete a comprehensive onboarding process including shadowing of all departments.
