School-Based Social Work Internship - BSW, MSW-I, MSW-II, PPSC OpportunitiesAt — SCUSD - Student Support and Health Services Department
Are you interested in serving children, youth, and families in a dynamic, culturally diverse environment? If so, a school-based internship with Sacramento City Unified School District's (SCUSD) Student Support and Health Services Department is the right one for you. Serving grades K-12 at student support centers throughout the district, interns have the opportunity to work alongside credentialed school social workers and other professionals to address the basic, academic, behavioral, health, and mental health needs of SCUSD students and families. Learn facets of case management as you serve individual students, of group dynamics as you provide psychoeducational services for small groups or classrooms, and of policy impact as you help address issues such as chronic absenteeism. Enrich your classroom learning experience through SSHS Department-sponsored training opportunities that will increase both your skill and knowledge on your way to becoming a professional social worker.
Students will gain confidence in their skills, knowledge, and ability to be a support service provider in our community. They will be knowledgeable about the role of a school social worker, the importance of collaboration, and of the many resources available in our region. They will become familiar with evidence-based programs and materials to address the social and emotional needs of children, youth, and adolescents. They will become familiar with, and understand the importance of, data collection. They will increase their skills to address equity in a diverse population.
Interns will be provided with both site-specific and department-wide orientation. They will shadow social work professionals in order to introduce them to the system they are serving in, and to learn more about the many duties of a school social worker. Additional training will be provided throughout the fall semester, covering a wide array of topics: mandated reporting, group dynamics, family engagement, the school system, public benefits, the impact of trauma in schools, and serving LGBTQIA+ youth.
No COVID vaccinations required. Safety training will be addressed at the beginning of the internship year.
