Opportunity Summary 

The UC Davis MIND Institute clinic provides comprehensive evidence-based assessments of children with suspected neurodevelopmental disabilities or related conditions such as attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental or cognitive delays, early speech or motor delays, mental health conditions, genetic syndromes and metabolic disorders. This field opportunity is for a Spanish speaking MSW II Intern that will be training with the LCSW in the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Spanish clinic (CRECE) and Genomic Medicine Clinics. The CRECE clinic is for monolingual Spanish speaking families in need of specialized developmental and behavioral pediatric care for children ages 0-12 years. We offer bilingual providers and culturally sensitive care and support. The Genomic Medicine Clinics see individuals of all ages (newborns, children and adults) for a variety of indications. Clinics include Genomic Medicine- General, NF/Ras Pathway, Metabolic, Lysosomal Storage Disorders, Neurogenomics, Ocular Genomics, TeleGenomics, Cardiovascular Genomics, and Autism Genomics.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

-The MSW II Intern will have a general understanding of the services offered at the UC Davis MIND Institute and referral process. -The MSW II Intern will become familiar with a variety of genetic conditions and neurodevelopmental disabilities. -The MSW II Intern will develop clinical skills in conducting thorough biopsychosocial assessments, have an understanding of the health care system and learn how to advocate for patients while collaborating with multiple entities in the community and within the multidisciplinary care team.

Opportunity Training 

-Orientation to UC Davis MIND Institute's Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics and Genomic Medicine clinics. -Chart reviews, shadowing, and guided clinical practice. -Biopsychosocial assessments to explore barriers to treatment and resource needs. -Care coordination. -Collaboration with multidisciplinary team. -Education on the healthcare system and referrals to community resources. -Overview of HIPAA compliance and mandated reporting requirements.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

The MSW II Intern will be expected to follow UC Davis Health System's current COVID-19 protocols, including the use of PPE such as masks and a face shield which are available on-site.
