MSW Student (Second Year)At — Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California
The MSW student will have the opportunity to work with a variety of medical teams. They will work directly with patients and their families to complete social work tasks including but not limited to, biopsychosocial assessments, ongoing support, referrals to community-based services, assisting with discharge planning and care coordination, assisting families with paperwork, participation in patient care rounds, patient and family advocacy and participation in hospital wide work groups and committees. Free parking is provided.
By the end of this opportunity, the student will have learned the valuable role that Social Work plays in the medical setting (both inpatient and outpatient). The student will understand the importance of social work theory to practice. The student will be able to conduct a complete biopsychosocial assessment and document in an EMR (Electronic Medical Record). The student will have learned the importance of establishing rapport while maintaining professional boundaries. The student will have learned how to identify and address issues with transference and countertransference. Students will lean the importance of self-care in Social Work practice
The student will be trained to document in the EMR and other computer-based programs used for training and team communication. The student will be trained on Social Work specific tasks (completing biopsychosocial assessments, ordering medical equipment, referrals to community-based services etc.) and how to efficiently document work completed. The student will be trained on how to participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds.
