Are you interested in working with children, youth, and families? Do you have a desire to hone your skills in the areas of case management, mentoring, group facilitation, and advocacy? Do you have a passion for serving in culturally diverse, under-served communities? Do you hope to learn more about the field of school social work? Then an internship with Sacramento City USD’s Student Support & Health Services Department (SSHS) is for you! Since 1992, SSHS has been the support services arm of the Sacramento City Unified School District, connecting students and their families to a wide array of basic, health, and mental health resources, either through direct service, or referrals to outside agencies. An internship with SSHS provides students with the unique opportunity to learn about school-based, multi-tiered systems of support from the perspective of a department run by social workers.
Learning opportunities include: • Academic, behavioral, health, and mental health support services • Case management • Individual, group, and family interventions • In-class curricula and interventions • Home visitation • Utilization of Evidence-based practice, assessment and evaluation • Resource and referral • Professional shadowing • Multidisciplinary collaboration with school and community partners • Didactic trainings on current topics in social work, presented by experienced professionals
Students will be on-boarded at their individual sites. Additionally, training will be provided throughout the fall semester by department staff and community partners, covering a range of topics useful in the internship setting.
