Head Trauma Support Project
P.O. Box 21566, Sacramento, 95821
The Head Trauma Support Project (HTSP) began 35 years ago as families of brain injury survivors united to support one another in making the journey from coma to community. At the time, no Sacramento-area resources existed to help survivors or their families adjust to life after brain injury.
Over the years, the project has expanded. It now includes survivors of brain injury, families and friends, caregivers and medical and rehabilitation professionals. HTSP brings people together with a common goal of promoting better understanding, treatment and quality of life for those with brain injury. Through support groups, survivors and family members continue to gain peer support while participating in social activities and listening to guest lecturers. HTSP empowers individuals to improve their potential and lead fuller lives. Our support groups are facilitated by professionals, and draw families and survivors from Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties.

Hearst San Simeon Historical Monument
100 Hearst Castle Rd, San Simeon, 93452
Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park sits in Midtown Sacramento in an area that has been the homeland of the Nisenan people since time immemorial. From 1839 to 1849, Sutter’s Fort was the economic center of the first permanent European colonial settlement in California’s Central Valley. Its founder was a Swiss immigrant named John Sutter who named his vast Mexican land grant “New Helvetia.” During that time, the Fort catalyzed patterns of change across California. No one felt those changes more acutely than the diverse Native peoples whose lives were transformed by the Fort’s presence. Many different Native people helped build the Fort, and their exploited labor made the Fort’s many industries possible. The discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill in 1848 started the gold rush that ultimately undermined Sutter’s businesses at the Fort and led to an even greater exploitation of Native people across California.
